A mobile storytelling & placemaking initiative as part of 'The City as a Museum' festival in Delhi to bring books and conversations into the public spaces of Khirkee
'The City as a Museum' is a travelling arts and heritage festival by DAG held over 12-25th September 2026 in Delhi, that reimagined the city as a living, open exhibition space rather than confining art to traditional gallery walls. We love creating on-street dialogue through the medium of art, storytelling & design, and that is exactly what we did as part of the festival!
We collaborated with The Community Library Project to take a mobile library through the neighborhood of Khirkee, to talk about right to read & free libraries. The mobile kiosk (modelled on the ubiquitous ice cream cart) carried books, local objects with stories, interactive activities, lots of stools to create spontaneous seating spaces, and human books as part of the Human Library concept who shared stories on home, migration, gender & freedom. By placemaking at diverse public nodes from parks to chowks, it traveled around the neighborhood activating its community spaces over 3 days.
The storytelling cart is now parked at the The Community Library Project in Khirkee to be used for their regular outreach and events. Do check it out if you visit or want to volunteer with them :)

What do street conversations look like when filled with stories, books & people’s ideas? How can art & education create spaces for connection and dialogue in neighborhoods?
