In Indian cities today, space is the most contested and valued commodity. Informal livelihoods make up the majority of Delhi’s economy, often existing in narrow lanes, on roads, in dumpsites and within homes. There is a critical need for mapping to reveal spatial inequalities and moving towards inclusion in the city’s planning processes.

This project was a collaborative initiative with Wiego Focal City Delhi to create awareness on the role and value of informal livelihoods such as waste picking, street vending and home based work in Indian cities. With the support of other community based organisations - SEWA, Janpahal and Basti Suraksha Manch, the initiative has created manuals, flyers, posters and interactive maps to understand the spatiality of these livelihoods.
